It still amazes me every April 1st, that we have come so far with my son. He was diagnosed on April 1st with a brain tumor. He went in for surgery on April 2nd to have the tumor removed. At that time I was told that the tumor was not going to be able to be removed and that the outlook was not good. I have to say that these are the last words that any parent wants to hear…”Your child has cancer”. He was 3 years old when they diagnosed him on April 1st, and it was far from an April fools joke as one could get. When he was diagnosed the Dr’s said he had about 28 days to live if they had not found the tumor. Which I have to say I am so glad that I pushed so hard for them to do a MRI to find out what was wrong with him.
As a parent, you sometimes just know when there is something wrong with your child. Trust in that, and find out what the problem is with your child. It may not be cancer but it could be something else. Your their advocate and their voice, you sometimes have to fight to get what they need and don’t be afraid to do just that!
It has been a long road for him but he has over come everything that has come his way. I couldn’t be prouder to call him my son. He amazes me more and more everyday, and he never gives up, he always finds a way to work around new problems that arise, how to keep a smile on his face, make everyone laugh, and he is just priceless. He continues to fight on, and does it with so much love, courage, and a positive attitude. He is an inspiration to so many that have met him. I couldn’t be prouder of him, for all he has done to help others with cancer to encourage them to win the battle against the beast.
He is so cute when it’s time to shave my head for St. Baldrick’s. He always says “Mom is going bald again to help more of us!” He is the first one to grab the clippers to cut my hair off after it has been donated to Locks of Love. He shaves it till his arms get tired then he hands it to the pro’s to finish up his handy work. I like to call it my hot mess look when he is done shaving it. lol He likes to shave in different areas so there are patches of hair everywhere so it makes him laugh. He is my little nut! lol
Happy Anniversary Devin! Mommy couldn’t be more proud of you! Today is your day to shine! Don’t worry the brownies are in the oven for your celebration! 😉
